A simple weight loss strategy

Losing weight and getting in shape is simple, but not easy.

Diet.  Eat what you currently eat. Twice per week fast for 24 hours.  You can have as much water as you like and tea and coffee, but no solid food.  Go from breakfast to breakfast,  lunch to lunch, or dinner to dinner without eating.

Exercise.  Walk every other day for 16 minutes.  Start at your front door and walk for 8 minutes, then turn around and make sure you get back to your front door before the total time is up.  Aim to go a bit further each time you walk, but still make it back to your front door in 16 minutes.  Keep track of distance by using markers such as house numbers.

Follow this plan and you will lose 1 kg per week, or your money back.

  1. Also, be careful not to subconsciously increase food intake for the other non-fast days/ meals -- don't reward/overcompensate a successful fast with more food :)

  2. That's a good point m.pkfds. Any other exercise tips? I assume you're a regular exerciser as well...

  3. Thank you Josh. Yes, I do enjoy regular exercise. I have a particular preference for walking in snow - it's a great cardiovascular work out. My favourite was a recent journey to the Arctic Circle - managed to catch the Aurora Borealis. Have you seen one? ;)

I love your above tip about walking. It's achievable. It's short enough, such that one does not have make a 'big decision' about taking time out to exercise. And progress is visible/ measurable with the distance achieved at the 8min mark.

    My exercise tips....
    1. Do something everyday - this helps create a habit, and the habit may soon develop a momentum of its own...

    2. Start small is fine, and sometimes probably preferable. It's more about the progress (and process...) than the target. My room mate has this card on the wall (a very geeky room mate I'm embarrassed to say....) "Achievement comes from the sum of consistent, small efforts, repeated daily" - as cheesy as it sounds, and at risk of damaging my street cred, I must admit that I agree with it...

    3. Do something fun! :)

Am loving your blog. Thanks for writing.
